Often, you’ll be testing the same product over and over again as your team is working on new builds. As a result, your test cycles may be relatively similar to your previous test cycles. In those cases, it is more efficient to create a new cycle by copying (cloning) an existing one, which will move many of the existing cycle settings into the new one.
Cloning a Test Cycle
- Select a product.
- While in the Test Cycle List page open the three dot menu of the desired test cycle and choose Clone.
- Or open the desired test cycle. In the test cycle page, click on the Actions dropdown in the top right corner and choose Clone Test Cycle.
- Set the copying definitions of the new cycle, including its new name, the relevant sections and attachments to carry over.
- Select “Clone”.
How to Activate Cloned Test Cycles
Once the new test cycle is cloned, your Applause management team is responsible for activation. You may contact your Applause team via phone or email, but you may also request cycle activation from the Applause platform.
How to Request Cycle Activation from the Applause Platform
- In the Test Cycles page, click the Request Activation button for the desired test cycle.
- Alternatively, you can open the desired test cycle from the list, and from the Actions dropdown in the top right corner select Request Activation.
Asynchronous Test Cycle Clone
In the Applause platform the test cycle clone process is completed in the background.
If the test cycle cloning process is quick (less than 5 seconds), the cloned test cycle will show up in the Edit mode as usual.
If the test cycle cloning process is taking more than 5 seconds to complete, you will be redirected to the new “Clone Progress” page that will show the progress.
- The “Clone Progress” page can be accessed from the main test cycles list by clicking on the test cycle name in the “Pending Cloning” status.
- The page content automatically refreshes every 5 seconds.
- Since the cloning process is executed asynchronously, the user can navigate to any page.
When the cloning task is completed:
- If you’re on the “Clone Progress” page:
- If the task is failed, the “Clone Progress” page will show failure.
- If the task is successful, you will be redirected to the cloned test cycle’s overview.
- If you are not on the “Clone Progress” page, a new toast message will update you:
- With a link to the cycle details if succeeded
- With the clone status if failed
You can filter the test cycles list by the Clone statuses:
- Pending Cloning
- Cloning Failed
